Curated routes

Slow journeys, mostly by water.

Each route below is a small, repeatable trip you can plan in an afternoon. Train, ferry, two nights, one coast.

Route 01

Train and Ferry Scandinavian Weekend

3 days Train + Ferry

Copenhagen, Helsingor, Helsingborg, Molle. A weekend built around one short ferry and the slow coast above it.

Helsingor castle from the deck
Crossing into Sweden in 20 minutes
A night above the harbor in Molle

Leave Copenhagen on a Friday afternoon by train, arrive in Helsingor in less than an hour. Walk to the ferry terminal, pay for a foot passenger ticket, and twenty minutes later you are stepping off in Sweden.

From Helsingborg, slower trains and a local bus take you up the Bjare peninsula to Molle. Two nights in a small guesthouse above the harbor, one long walk on the Kullaberg cliffs, one slow seafood dinner. Sunday morning, retrace your route, with one stop in Helsingor for coffee.

The whole route is short on logistics and long on coast. No driving, no flights, almost no planning. The kind of weekend you can repeat four times a year with small variations.

Route 02

Atlantic Coast Road Route

7 days Car + Walking

A slow drive along the Portuguese Atlantic, from Lisbon to the southwestern cliffs and back inland.

Sagres at the edge of the continent
Cliff walks on the Costa Vicentina
Quiet evenings in small fishing towns

Pick up a car in Lisbon, head west and south with no hurry. The route should never put you in the car for more than two hours at a stretch. The point is the coast, not the kilometers.

Spend two nights in a guesthouse in Vila Nova de Milfontes, two more in Sagres, one inland to break up the drive. Walk a section of the Rota Vicentina each morning, eat fish each evening, and let the weather decide the rest.

The drive back to Lisbon should take a day, with a long lunch and one final walk along the cliffs.

Route 03

Mediterranean Harbor Journey

5 days Train + Ferry

Marseille, Cassis, the Calanques, and a hop across to Porquerolles. A train and ferry route built around three small harbors.

Lunch in a Calanque
The ferry to Porquerolles
Sunset from the old port

Start in Marseille, two nights to absorb the city and the old port. A morning boat to the Calanques, an afternoon in Cassis by coastal train, and a slower day moving east toward Hyeres.

From Hyeres, the small ferry to Porquerolles, where there are almost no cars and almost too many bicycles. Two nights on the island, one long walk, plenty of swimming.

Back to Marseille by the same trains. The route works in either direction.

Route 04

Baltic Autumn Route

4 days Train + Ferry + Bus

A short autumn loop through the Estonian coast and the island of Saaremaa.

Tallinn old town in the rain
The ferry to Saaremaa
A night in a wooden farmhouse

Fly into Tallinn, spend an evening in the old town. Next morning, a long bus or train ride west to Virtsu, then the ferry to Muhu, and across the causeway to Saaremaa. The whole thing is part of the trip.

Two nights in a small wooden guesthouse, with autumn light, empty roads, and food that leans heavily on what the season gives. Back to Tallinn on the last day, with time for a final walk along the harbor.

Route 05

Lake and Sea Escape Combination

6 days Train + Ferry

A route that combines an inland lake with a short coastal stretch, perfect for travelers who want both calm water and open sea.

Lakeside afternoon ferries
A coastal walk to round off the trip
Two distinct kinds of water

Start with three nights on Lake Como, taking the small ferries between villages and walking the lower trails between Varenna and Bellagio. From Como, a train down to Genoa, then a coastal connection to a small Ligurian harbor for two more nights.

The contrast is the point. A few days of still water and morning fog on the lake, followed by salt air and a different kind of horizon on the Mediterranean.
